Ten Answers to Ten Questions
English Translation by Amadea Leonore – Vlad Eskov:

1)
My name is Gilbert Brüning. I was born on October 13, 1973 in Berlin – Kaulsdorf.
Kaulsdorf is a rural, residential, old neighborhood that was a part of the former East Berlin. It used to be a village before it became a part of Berlin. And, it is about eight hundred years old.
My father was a Pastor for many years in the Protestant village church of Kaulsdorf. My mother worked as an artist in Kaulsdorf for the church. She mostly
designed posters for the different showcases in the surrounding area.
Since 2006 I have been shooting my own documentary films as a freelance filmmaker. My films have received several international film awards. This includes some recognition that some of my documentary films received at the Cannes Film Festival. Nevertheless, I have not been able to make a living from this work so far.

2)
My documentary films are impromptu and intuitive. I do my best to capture the action of the moment. One could say that my documentary films reflect realism inside of an instant.

3)
BrückenKunst is the name of our artists' group. We are a group of as of yet
undiscovered artists. Our group is international. We consist mostly of painters from Korea and Germany.
Over the past few years most of our exhibitions have mainly been held in three different places: Berlin (GER), Demmin (GER), and Rüdersdorf (GER). FYI, Demmin and Rüderdorf are two smaller towns that are a part of the neighboring county of Berlin which is known as Brandenburg. The Founder of our artists' group (BrückenKunst) is a painter from Korea. His name is Junggeun Oh.

4)
BrückenKunst holds an annual vernissage in The House of the Miners in Rüdersdorf. This house is called Das Bollenbinderhaus in German. I shot a beautiful scene about the opening of a nearby Mountain Festival which also took place in Rüdersdorf in 2019. This short documentary film of mine about the Mountain Festival (German: Bergfest) was presented by BrückenKunst as a part of our exhibition in The House of the Miners during that same year.

5)
All my documentary films are rather freestyle in their composition, I would say
my films cannot be assigned to any particular genre and there is no precise concept either. For me, however, they are documentary films because they are intended to show the reality and the prevailing mood in the current situation.

6)
Naturally, most of the people who appear in the film and who are speaking during the shots are the artists from the project BrückenKunst. All of us are friends with one another for many years now. Once in a while we even meet for a beer in order to socialize at one of the member's residences.

7)
The theme of our exhibition in 2019 was "Point and Line to Plane" inspired by
Wassily Kandinsky. All of the works of the artists from BrückenKunst were supposed to have been created using Kandinsky's basic principle. Basically this principle looks at an artwork as being made up of three main components:
a) an invisible point;
b) a point which moves in time and becomes a line;
c) the combination of multiple lines to form a plane.
According to Kandinsky all artworks should be based on this theory.

8)
Some of the topics and themes of the art festivals and exhibitions of our group
BrückenKunst in the past years included such themes as: One Day More (2016),
Reform (2017), We Still Exist (2018), and Invisible (2020). The posters have been designed by Junggeun Oh and other artists from the project BrückenKunst.

9)
We hold an Annual Opening for our group's exhibition in The House of the Miners
(German: Haus der Bergleute / Bollenbinderhaus) in Rüdersdorf. As already mentioned, our Annual Opening occurs in Rüdersdorf and on the exact same day as the Annual Opening of another group in this same place – the nearby Mountain Festival (German: Bergfest) – which is the Festival of the Miners.

10)
Besides my documentary filmmaking at the moment I am currently doing a day job for a social library in Berlin. In addition to being a library we organize book readings in various places like retirement homes, schools, and other interesting spots. For the next few weeks I am preparing readings one the subject of German Unity. I personally find the topic very exciting and important.
